Never homeschooled before?   Here are some basic steps to begin with:
  1. Learn the legal requirements for homeschoolers in your state.

  1. Read books & periodicals about homeschooling. The public library is a valuable resource in the search for material. Some area bookstores offer discounts to home-based teachers. The Cincinnati & Hamilton County library offers a special Teacher Collection Card which allows higher limits on the number of materials that can be taken out and how long they can be kept.
  1. Consider joining the Home School Network. We can connect you with other families who are already schooling at home, and families who have children the same age(s) as yours. They can answer questions about socialization, organization, curriculum, textbooks, etc. Our monthly newsletters list activities around the area and useful resources.
  1. Plan a curriculum. The HSN usually has a forum about planning a curriculum in the early summer as well as a used book sale.

  1. Write a letter notifying your school district superintendent of your intention to homeschool your child.
